My Blog

My first photograph

Hello guys, this is my first photography website and write up. I would like to start with telling you how did I get my first DSLR camera ! its a quiet interesting story !!

Since I was a kid, say about 15 years old, I had this thing in me for photography but never had very good camera equipment. Seeing my talent, dad bought me a sony cyber-shot. Little did he know that its not going to fill up my stomach!

I asked him to buy me the more expensive DSLR camera's but he denied because he thought they were too bulky and given my track record, i would break them.

I waited patiently for a long time until I came to Manchester, UK, to study Business Management.

Coming to the UK was like coming to a place where I could only see photographers ! photographers everywhere, they used to eat photos, drink photos, think photos, and sleep photos. That inspired me even more.

One random morning, I woke up and decided, its enough! I now need a DSLR !!
I got up, went to WHSmith and bought myself a new Nikon D3100.

Before buying that piece of technological marvel, I had to do a lot of research because I was completely new to the DSLR breed of monsters. I learnt, I understood and finally settled on the D3100.

Having bought it, for a couple of days, I was not able to understand how to use this god dam thing !!

But, thanks to google, thanks to youtube and thanks to the internet !!

I found Mr. Marck Wallace on youtube. That guy out there is my mentor I feel. I have only seen him on youtube but the way he explains is marvelous. I learnt tips and tricks. Slowly slowly i understood what different modes are, what white balance is.

I would like to share a incidence with you ! the first time I learnt about custom white balance, i tried it in my room and i was AWESTRUCK ! I couldn't imagine my eyes ! That was the moment i realized that i am not holding a camera, I am holding a DSLR ! a technological and photographical marvel.

I went on, learnt and learnt, went out in Manchester to do street photography, my friends used to play football/basket ball, i took shots of them, slowly slowly i understood what exposure compensation is, what metering modes are !

And now, in 2011.. exactly 1 year after i bought my DSLR i think i have mastered my camera. I am not saying I am perfect. I still lack the skills of top notch photographers, but as it is said,
"success is not a destination, its a path."

So yeah guys, slow and steady wins the race. And now you all can see the pictures i have clicked. I am proud of them.

By the way, The collection you see on my website is not my whole collection. I have more than 2000 pictures, but I have decided to wait and be patient. I will upload them one by one, week by week so that you guys keep coming to my website and enjoy the "nostalgia"

Cheers,
Archit Sureka.
